Frequently Asked Questions
Introduction
Our FAQs are real, IT support questions, which we've been asked more than once.
We've tried to answer them here in a helpful way, so if one of these is your question, it may save you time and frustration. Some things are just information - terms explained, and so on. Some may help to solve actual problems.
These suggestions and solutions have been useful to us, but there are always unusual circumstances, when things are not what they seem to be. IT is necessarily complex: apparently simple problems often have complex causes, which put them beyond the scope of basic help notes like these.
If you have a problem and are unsure about how to proceed...
... it's best to contact an experienced technical advisor. Don't change settings on PCs etc., unless you're confident it's the right thing to do.
It's easy to make matters worse rather than better. If you do try any of our suggestions on your own, please make sure that you fully understand the instructions or recommendations which we give, before you start.
We are always here to give advice. Please call our Help Desk if you are at all unsure or don’t have access to your own IT or technical advisors.
