6. My laptop won't turn on...
Laptops can refuse to turn on as a result of a hardware fault or battery failure.
However, the powering on system itself has an element of software control, that can become corrupted. This will require a qualified technician to fix it, or occasionally, removing the battery and leaving the laptop without any power for 24 hours.
More often though, the fault lies with the battery: it may need replacing or isn't being charged properly because of a faulty charger in the laptop. In these cases, the laptop works when it is connected to the mains power, but stops when the mains is disconnected.
If this is the case with your laptop, please contact our helpdesk. Have your laptop to hand, so that you can answer questions about it when asked.
If problems with the battery and the charging circuit are fixed or ruled out, but it's still failing to turn on, it may have more serious faults. These will need an experienced computer repair engineer to diagnose. In this case, our helpdesk can arrange for an engineer to examine your laptop.
