Many years ago under a different name, we started as a developer. Today development is still a core part of what we do.
We excel at solving awkward, one-off problems, which off-the-shelf software cannot do on its own:
- We make the connections between things that won't "talk" to one another,
- We process very complex data sets,
- We design business critical systems that are in daily use in both local and Fortune 1000 international companies.
It's a myth that development is too expensive for the smaller enterprise, often put about by commercial software vendors! In fact, if you do it right, it's a very cost-effective way to get exactly what the business needs, rather than spending ages bending a standard product to fit.
If you have a need that you cannot meet off-the-shelf, talk to us!
Commercial project successes
Very often our development projects give clients a crucial competitive advantage, and confidentiality is important. As a business, you'd be right to ask for specifics (and we'll be glad to talk with you and show you more), but here it's safe to say we have developed successful tools in a range of fields:
- Premises security monitoring and video processing,
- Extremely complex customer databases, in both retail and sports sectors,
- Network monitoring and reporting tools,
- B2B Sales tools: building complex quotations accurately from large price lists,
- Presentation of management data, in real time on mobile devices,
- Machine control and ERP,
- Extremely powerful, cascaded, cloud-based email screening and filtering,
- On-line shops and transaction systems, integrated with supply chain and fulfilment business processes.
Historically, some of these projects have included bespoke hardware development, to the level of high-performance chip design.
How could you gain from a development project?
It's simple, really: if you have a business need you can't meet, we can give you the competitive edge you are looking for.
Because we know our clients, we don't hand off this vital task to sub-contractors. Along with the software you get proper, responsive support, and commitment to any future development. You can't beat support from the person who actually wrote the code, and you are unlikely to get that off-the-shelf!
So, whilst it's true we focus on IT support, we also have real depth when you need it. For us, knowing who to call is often just a matter of walking over to someone else's desk...
Making it happen
First of all, talk to us about your business need!
We will work with you to specify exactly what a project needs to achieve, and give you a clear idea of costs and timeline before we start anything. Whilst it is important that both sides fully understand the project scope, business needs are dynamic, and we are flexible. So you don't have to worry that your project is set in concrete - if the requirement changes, so can the design. Our goal is not to make software, but to meet your business need cost-effectively.
During development, we'll keep you fully updated, and we will test almost-ready-to-go versions with you, so that the finished version does exactly what it should.
And after it's working for you, obviously, we will fully support it.
Our staff are highly qualified. It is normal for our developers to have at least a first degree in a Computer Science discipline, and often they have additional academic qualifications. We recruit on the "three Es"—Education, Expertise and Experience—and practical qualifications in common programming languages and development systems are important too. We also ensure our staff keep their skills up-to-date, with continuing education and training.
Many of our development staff are additionally trained in project management, including Prince 2 and Agile formal methodologies.
